Land Acknowledgement

We welcome you to our campaign website and would like to recognize the land on which our riding sits. We are located on the traditional territory of Mississauga's of the New Credit, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the Wendat peoples which is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that we are covered by Treaty 13, signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
We extend our gratitude to the original caretakers of this land and recognize there is much more learning to be done. The conversations we have today reflect our ongoing commitment to fostering a more just and caring society - which must begin with acknowledging that we are on this borrowed land.
We are proud that the Ontario Green Party, our members here in Beaches-East York, our families, and our community respect and support public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools which remains a vital component of our reconciliation process.
We actively acknowledge our Country’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples. By working towards righting our relations with First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities, we are building a more socially just place for all.
